Residence Life FAQs
How and when do I apply for student housing?
First-year and transfer students should apply for housing once they have been admitted to the College and submitted a $500 deposit to Admissions ($200 damage deposit/$300 enrollment deposit). All housing applications are due by June 15.
Where are students housed?
Students live in six residence halls on campus: Alumnae, Aquino, Spellman, Mastronardi, Seton, and Marillac. First-year students are assigned to rooms in Spellman Hall.
When will I find out my housing assignment?
First-year and transfer students who complete a housing application by the June 15 application deadline will be assigned to rooms first. Late applicants will be assigned rooms throughout the summer months. All residents will receive notification of their housing assignment and roommate(s) via their CMSV email account by early August.
When can I move into to my residence hall room?
Move-in for first year/transfer students usually takes place on the Thursday prior to the first day of classes. Returning residents move in on the Sunday prior to the first day of classes.
Can I bring my car to campus?
Due to the extremely limited number of parking spaces on campus, first-year resident students are not permitted to have cars on campus. For upperclass students, a number of paid parking spaces on campus are available on a first come, first serve basis. Each semester the Office of Campus Safety and Security distributes information regarding parking passes for available parking areas. Detailed information about how to apply can be found in this twice-yearly communication, or on the Campus Safety and Security page.
May I have overnight guests?
To support students in making a successful transition to college life, first-year students are not permitted any overnight guests during the first semester at the Mount. However, to assist First-Year/Transfer students in connecting and learning the campus culture, the College schedules various programs and events during the first few weeks that support the development of confidence and connectedness with all the Mount has to offer. Please see the Student Handbook for the detailed guest policy.
Where can I do laundry?
Laundry services are located on the first floor or basement level of each residence hall. Each laundry room includes a number of washer and dryers. The College provides a free service that allows students to wash/dry clothes free of charge. Our laundry machines are also equipped with a program that allows you to log in from any laptop or computer to view which washers and dryers are currently in use. You can access this handy service at http://laundryview.com. Damaged or broken machines should be reported to the Office of Housing and Residence Life by calling (718) 405-3226. Laundry rooms are serviced by CSC Service Works.
If I live on campus, am I required to have a meal plan?
Yes, all residential students are required to go on the mandatory College meal plan, which is based on a declining balance.
Can I stay in my room during Winter and Spring Break?
Yes. Students wishing to remain in one of the residence halls that remain open during a break must receive prior approval and pay a per diem fee. Please refer to the official guidelines, which are distributed via College of Mount Saint Vincent email prior to each break by the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
Can I purchase my books from the campus bookstore?
The Campus Store sells a host of items for both classroom and personal use but does not sell textbooks. You can purchase your books from Akademos, our online bookstore.
What do I do if I lose my student ID or my keys?
