Mount Made: Making a Mark in the Media

8/15/2019

Armando Cataldi ’11 Wins Daytime Emmy

Since jump starting his career in television and media, Armando Cataldi ’11 has worked behind the camera of over a dozen popular news and talk shows—from the Rachel Ray Show to VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live and the Nate Berkus Show to Who Wants to be a Millionaire—just to name a few.

But for the past two years, Armando has climbed the ranks as the Production and Field Manager at Daily Mail TV, a division of Stage 29 Productions owned by Dr. Phil McGraw.

In his current role, Armando barely has time to catch his breath—he manages field crews, producers, and talent agents, ensures that various segments of the show are running on schedule, oversees the budgets for both studio and field shoots, and supervises a group of freelance and full-time employees.

“This role keeps me on my toes! I love not knowing what can happen next,” said Armando. “One minute I’m out with friends on a Saturday afternoon and the next I’m in the studio running an exclusive story from Italy.”

And what could be more exciting than scoring a dream job and working with a talented group of young moguls in the media?

Winning an Emmy, of course!

This past May, Armando and his crew celebrated a Daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Entertainment News Program, which was quite an accomplishment since the program has only been on the air since June 2017.

“I often think about all the hard work I put into my craft and all the hours I’ve spent in the studio instead of out with family and friends,” he said. “But, I feel like I’m doing something people care about—and earning recognition for doing what I love makes it all worth it.”

Getting to where he is today meant years of patience and dedication. During his time as a communication major at the Mount, Armando spent countless hours in the classrooms of Cynthia Meyers and Vincent Fitzgerald—who not only taught him about the logistics of television and media, but guided him through a challenging set of internships and offered valuable career advice.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for Mount Saint Vincent,” continued Armando. “I will never forget all of the guidance and support I received from the College community. I will always cheer for the white and the gold!”

Armando is yet another example of a Mount Saint Vincent alum transferring the skills he learned both in and outside the classroom to an exciting and fulfilling career serving those around him. We’re excited to see what’s next for him and his role at Daily Mail TV. Perhaps we’ll see him advance as a field manager overseas—he has traveled to 26 countries and counting! And we definitely know we’ll see him bring in many more awards and accolades.
