Interdisciplinary Studies

Studying Interdisciplinary Studies

The Interdisciplinary Studies major permits a student to design an individual course of study by combining courses selected from the offerings of two disciplines. Because of the individual nature of this program, in consultation with the faculty advisors, students who apply for admission to it are expected:

  1. To design a focused major proposal which clearly relates to their future goals and individual learning outcomes; and
  2. To give evidence of exceptional maturity by their willingness to refine and develop their proposals through open-ended discussion with appropriate members of the College faculty, particularly the Interdisciplinary Studies advisor, and their faculty advisors in the two areas they propose to combine. Clearly articulated learning outcomes must be identified at the time that the major is developed and a plan to assess these outcomes must be indicated on the Interdisciplinary Studies major application form.
