Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Video Art and Digital Photography

The College of Mount Saint Vincent is an academically excellent, authentically inclusive, Catholic and ecumenical liberal arts college with approximately 1,500 undergraduate students and 300 graduate students, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York City. Job Description
The Division of Communication, Art, and Media at the College of Mount Saint Vincent invites applications for the 2020-2021 academic year for a full time, tenure-track position in Video Art and Digital Photography at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The ideal candidate will be a hybrid teaching artist and practitioner, who has completed an M.F.A., Ph.D., or a related terminal degree with an emphasis in video art, or video installation art with an interest and ability to also teach photographic practices.

Qualifications

  • Applicants are expected to have a record of teaching and exhibition, or screenings, and some academic or professional background in photographic studies, contemporary practices, and/or modern art history
  • Applicants completing a dissertation, thesis, or thesis project with an expected completion date by August 31, 2021 will be considered
  • Successful candidates may be contacted for portfolio, demo reel, or examples of studio work, and materials that demonstrate effective teaching and mentoring with a diverse and urban student population

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials and methods of instruction.  Create new courses from one or more of these areas:
    • Video art in sculptural installation, screen based installation, electronic installation, or projection
    • Videography in the production of shorts
    • Digital fine art photography, photographic studies and practices, or art history
    • Expanded applications of photography in mixed media, studio art, printmaking, or animation
    • Digital studio photography and lighting
    • Teach 21-credit hours (seven courses) per academic year during Fall and Spring semesters for college undergraduate students, including performing related responsibilities, such as class preparation and assessment of student learning outcomes.  Teach an array of existing required and elective courses and develop new courses during the tenure track. Existing courses include video production and post, fine art photography (natural light), studio photography, printmaking, installation art, public art, animation, experimental film studies, film as art, sculpture, painting, and mixed media studio. Opportunities to teach during the Winter and Summer sessions are also available.
    • Advise visual art and studio art majors in planning and completing their undergraduate degree programs.
    • Maintain an active record of exhibitions, or screenings.  Exchange ideas surrounding critical art practices at conferences and art talks, or through publication in journals, or art magazines.  Maintain active membership in relevant art and media related organizations.
    • Provide service to the Division, College, and the community
