Dr. St. John’s art therapy career spans more than 30 years, primarily at The College of New Rochelle where she chaired the division and was a Professor of Graduate Art Therapy, Art Education, and Studio Art. Her clinical work covers the life span in inpatient treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, as well as outpatient treatment of neurological disorders.

She is active in the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) in many capacities: She has been elected to the board of directors, selected as associate editor of the journal Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, she served as past chair of the education committee, the research committee, and the strategic planning committee. Additionally, she served as co-chair of the Task Force for Revision of Master’s Degree Education Standards. Currently, she is on the journal’s editorial review board, serves on the conference review committee, and is a member of the education and research committees, as well as the Coalition of Art Therapy Educators.

Dr. St. John has authored numerous articles and book chapters and is a frequent presenter at AATA’s annual conferences, and has presented at the Expressive Therapies Summit, and the New York Art Therapy Association (NYATA). She holds the award of Honorary Life Member in NYATA and the New England Art Therapy Association.

The AATA has  recognized her work with the Distinguished Service Award for her many successful years of service to the association and community of art therapists. She also received their Research Award for excellence in research. As a practicing artist, her mixed media artwork has been exhibited in juried exhibits across the country.
