Accelerated Nursing Student FAQs

Is there an application fee for Accelerated Nursing?
There is no application fee for the Program.

Am I eligible to apply to the Accelerated Nursing if I have earned only an associate’s degree and not a bachelor’s degree?
Prospective students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing subject are eligible to apply to the Accelerated Nursing.

Are prospective applicants who have earned a bachelor’s degree from an institution outside the U.S. still eligible to apply?
Yes. They are required to have their transcripts evaluated by WES or Globe.

Can the prerequisites be taken online?
The prerequisite requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis if previously taken online or if you are looking to complete them online. Please email a course description or syllabus for each course to gradstudies@mountsaintvincent.edu so they can be reviewed by the Division of Natural Science.

If some of my prerequisite classes have been taken over 5 years ago, would I have to retake them? Can I still apply?
Yes, you must retake these classes, but you are encouraged to apply to the Program. We cannot render a decision on your application until you provide proof (unofficial transcript) showing you are registered for the outstanding courses.

If I am in the process of completing the prerequisites, when will I know the admission decision?
After you have submitted your application and supporting documents along with proof you are registered for any outstanding prerequisite courses, we will be able to issue your admission decision.

Where can I take the prerequisite classes if I need to complete them?
Applicants can complete the prerequisite courses at the College of Mount Saint Vincent as a non-matriculated student or they can complete them at another college, university, or community college. This must be done prior to beginning the Accelerated Nursing Program.

Once accepted into the Program, can I be waived out of certain classes that I have previously taken?
Yes, the only course students can potentially have waived is Lifespan, if their previous coursework is deemed transferable.

If I have taken General Chemistry will that meet the Organic Chemistry requirement?
No. All prospective applicants are required to complete Organic Chemistry to fulfill the prerequisite requirement.

What type of nursing license will I be eligible to obtain upon completion of Accelerated Nursing?
Upon completion of the Program students are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) to earn a RN license.

What is the overall average GPA required for admission into Accelerated Nursing?
A 3.0 GPA is the standard expectation for admission. Applicants for the Accelerated Nursing program are reviewed and evaluated on a holistic basis. In case of extraordinary circumstances, exceptions to this requirement may be made. If an applicant’s overall GPA does not meet the required 3.0 GPA, then they are encouraged to submit extra supplemental documents (i.e.: resume, extra letters of recommendation, TEAS/HESI scores) and/or meet with Ellen Lloyd, Director for the Office of Professional and Graduate Studies Admission to discuss their application.

Are there any differences between the two locations? Which one should I apply to?
