Student Wellness Coordinator for CMSV VIP Program

Job Description
The CMSV-VIP Program (CMSV-Vocational Independence Program) provides opportunities for young adults with developmental disabilities to develop and use skills that will enable them to seek employment and adult living opportunities in their communities. At the College of Mount Saint Vincent VIP is expanded to embrace not only Vocational preparation but also campus and community Inclusion, and opportunities for Participation in campus life for each and every student.

Reporting to the CMSV-VIP Associate Director for Administration, the Student Wellness Coordinator is responsible for assessing the medical needs of CMSV-VIP students, including medication refills, physical symptoms of illness, and in training CMSV-VIP staff and administration in medical/emergency protocol. The Student Wellness Coordinator will work part-time in the program and serve as the point-of-contact on call for off-hours student medical needs. The Student Wellness Coordinator will work closely with the CMSV-VIP administration, adjunct faculty, and residential life departments, as well as other internal College of Mount Saint Vincent departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director for Administration and Residential Supervisor to enact a medical and emergency protocol for the safety of CMSV-VIP students
  • Train all residential life and teaching/mentoring staff in student safety procedures
  • Serve as liaison between CMSV-VIP school personnel, family and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
  • Conduct as-needed health screenings for CMSV-VIP students
  • Coordinate referrals to health care providers as needed
  • In conjunction with the Residential Supervisor, maintain supervision of controlled substances and ensure safe handling of substances and medication dispersion
  • Develop individualized student health care plans based on assessment, interventions and student medical history
  • Provide health-related education seminars to students and staff in both individual and group settings
  • Oversee infection control measures

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Nursing or related field, Registered Nurse licensing required
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families
  • Prior school-based services/higher education experience preferred
  • Experience in developing and implementing health-related education
