Sabbatical Application and Evaluation Form

All proposals should be submitted to the Office of the Provost/Dean of Faculty. Proposals will be forwarded to the Faculty Development Committee. Applicants are expected to review the Faculty Handbook for the specific requirements, criteria and deadlines associated with the application process.

Eligibility Criteria

Please provide evidence of eligibility including length of service, time of last award, number of previous sabbaticals and evidence of work accomplished in last sabbatical.

EVALUATION PART I

  1. Summary
    Please provide a one-paragraph abstract of the proposed research or project(s).
  2. Rationale (20 points)
    Explain the significance of the specific objectives of the research or project(s) to be conducted during the sabbatical.
  3. Methodologies (20 points)
    Describe the activities and/or theoretical frameworks, methodologies, strategies, and/or practices to be employed to achieve the stated objectives of the research or project(s), including deadlines or timelines as applicable.
  4. Dissemination (20 points)
    Explain how the research or project(s) will be disseminated. Describe the professional venues, such as publishers, journals, sites, festivals, galleries, or conferences that would be appropriate for this research or project(s).
  5. Benefit (20 points)
    a. Describe the benefit of the work to the faculty member’s development as a professional
    b. Describe the connection between the proposed project and the faculty member’s scholarly development
  6. Selected Bibliography (20 points)

EVALUATION PART II

  1. CV
  2. Letter of endorsement by the Department Chair or Director of Division
  3. Endorsement/reference letters where appropriate. This might include outside letters of support, acceptance for an exhibition or book proposal, etc.

On occasion, the Faculty Development Committee may request further details or clarification. All applicants should be prepared to provide additional information should the need arise.
