Peter Jay Sharp Athletic and Recreation Center
The Peter Jay Sharp Athletic and Recreation Center, located in the heart of campus, offers 50,000 square feet of recreational space to all Mount Saint Vincent student-athletes, faculty, and staff. A valid Mount Saint Vincent ID is all that is required.
The expanded Sharp Center opened in 2009. The new performance court is now home to Mount Saint Vincent’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs.
The Sharp Center houses the campus Fitness Center, consisting of an auxiliary gymnasium, locker rooms, and athletic offices. The newly renovated Fitness Center has three rooms, featuring Cybex equipment, free weights, and various cardiovascular equipment, rivaling commercial facilities in the region.
The auxiliary gymnasium is located on the second floor of the Fitness Center. Either the auxiliary gymnasium or the performance court is open for recreational use at all times. Just off the auxiliary gym floor are the Sports Medicine and Athletic Department offices, and a dance studio.
The athletic and recreation facility was named for its benefactor, the late Peter Jay Sharp, in 2009, with an addition of more 17,800 square feet of space. The state-of-the-art gymnasium features an NCAA regulation sized basketball/volleyball court, as well as two full-sized cross courts that allow the Mount to host NCAA competitions, summer camps, and intramural programs. With capacity for more than 600 spectators, the Sharp Center has become a center of campus life, where fans cheer on the Dolphins.
